| Updates! |
[Sep. 28th, 2009|09:45 pm] |
I should probably update this more often. I need to update my bio and interests, too. And I will, now that I've got a few days off and no need to do anything much beyond seeing some people and saying good bye. Well, that and going through all my crap and organizing it and try to set up a household goods shipment.
Oh, and I'm moving to Japan in a few weeks. Greatly looking forward to it. I'm back in the local area for those locals peoples, though, for a brief while, if anyone wants to get together. |

| WINDYCON! |
[Nov. 17th, 2008|10:11 pm] |
Like many members of my flist, I was at a convention in Chicago this weekend. Unlike them, however, mine was not a Supernatural one. I was at Windycon, which is a military science fiction con. Good times were had, and a lot of money was spent, by me if no one else.
Among my purchases:
1. Michael Z. Williamson's Freehold (signed by the author and cover arist) 2. One of Williamson's Sniper books. Also signed by the author. 3. A BOATLOAD of John Ringo's books: Manxome Foe, Princess of Wands, The Last Centurion, Claws That Catch, Sister Time. 4. A Tanya Huff book about a thief with a conscience. 5. The Illustrated Wee Free Men for my aunt 6. A Bag of Devouring to carry my new library around 7. An amethyst ring 8. A plush Cthulu that is "cthute and cuddly" 9. A variety of pins pithy sayings including "Meddle not in the affairs of slashers, for you are cute and look good with other men". Also "Fandom is the world's most sophisticated and advanced way of just hanging around." 10. A signed picture of Chekov and Sulu. (Walter Koenig was a Guest of Honor at the convention) 11. A print of the cover art from Freehold, signed by the artist and the author. 12. An Eric Flint omnibus of the first two books in the Belisarius series. 13. Laurell K. Hamilton's Lick of Frost in paperback, which I managed to finish at the convention. I had bought the next book at Wal-mart previously, but wanted to read Lick of Frost first. 14. A Thursday next book, the Well of Lost Plots, which is a mystery through literature. It's an interesting premise. 15. Four filk CDs. One of songs from Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books, one of songs from Andre Norton's Witchworld (that one is going to my favorite uncle for his birthday). One that has Heather Alexander's March of Cambreadth on it. And the last one has Michelle Dockery's "Mal's Song".
I think that's everything. Next entry will be about the panels I attended. Everything from "Sunnydale to Kobol: Race and Gender in science fiction TV" to "The Military-Civilian Culture Gap" and including "Can Liberal Science-fiction Exist and What Would it Look Like?" |

Your result for The RPG Class Test... Smart Paladin78% Combativeness, 20% Sneakiness, 76% Intellect, 53% Spirituality
Valorous! Noble! Or possibly just a self-righteous jerk (but with the brains to keep you alive!)... You are a Smart Paladin!
Paladins are holy warriors. They are valorous defenders of the light. Unfortunately, most of them are so ardent in their defense they tend to meet sticky ends faster than you can say "rampaging red dragon." Many people look up to Paladins, while others just consider them stuck up, overbearing, or self-righteous.
Fortunately for you, unlike most Paladins, you're pretty smart. Which means that you're more likely to fall into the "admired" category, rather than the "obnoxious" or "dead" categories.
Much like the crusades, you manage to combine violence and religion, though unlike the crusades, you add a healthy does of intelligence. You may be a staunch defender of the faith, a valorous champion of the weak, or the stuff that jihads are made of. Which ever one you are, just be happy that you've got the smarts to back it up and make it work. Take The RPG Class Test at HelloQuizzy |

And I just got off work about 45 minutes ago, and I will be back at work in less than 12 hours, but I just wanted to give a birthday shoutout to
The United States Navy! Oh yeah, baby. 233 years old today. 233 years of service and a tradition I'm proud to be a part of. I will retire a Navy Chief or die in the trying. Hoorah! |

I would like to make a really long flaily post, but unfortunately I have to be at work at 8 tomorrow morning, so I will just say this: There is not enough squee in the world. All the factories on earth could be working overtime producing squee, and there still wouldn't be enough. That is all. Good night. |

My last name begins with D, although it's just De and then the province in the Netherlands that my family is from.
( Anyway )
Incidentally, thanks everyone for the Birthday wishes. I had a good one, clebreated over a period of about a week and a half. |

[Jul. 10th, 2008|01:46 pm] |
and because I was kind of planning to do it anyway, here we go, from midnight_coffee, ( A survey )
Also, although I enjoy reading slash, I have never thought of myself as a slasher, as such. That has now changed. I slash Barnabas Collins/Willie Loomis like nobody's business. I do not expect most people to understand this, as the show I'm talking about went off the air before most of them were born. But to those who do, I cannot wait for the rumored movie to come out. |

| So I have finally gotten around to it. |
[Apr. 3rd, 2008|10:51 pm] |
So I have held off on posting about a few things because I wanted to answer the questions Sorocula asked me hmm, almost two months ago now. So here they are:
1. What is another theme song for the Winchesters--one that hasn't actually been used on the show?
This is the one that had me thinking for some time instead of immediately posting an answer. I had to run through the music I have or know. And the answer isn't a rock song, it's a show tune. From David and Goliath, I think. I have a CD of Randall Keith singing it along with a bunch of others from Les Miz, Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde, Phantom of the Opera, and that lot. The song is called "Into the Fire" and I will eventually figure out how to upload it for y'all if you want. The lyrics are somewhat similar to the Buffy song of the same name, dealing with fighting even against overwhelming odds, even when you know there's no real resolution or solution, because somebody has to and you can't simply lay down and let things happen. That's the Winchesters, to me. Saving people, hunting things. Because somebody has to. Because they know what's out there and they can't stand by, even or perhaps especially when they know nothing they do will have any effect.

| Birthday wishes |
[Nov. 6th, 2007|07:04 pm] |
First, Happy Birthday and many happy returns to Devianttruth, whom I have just met but nevertheless seems very cool, and we have a lot in common. Hope it's a good one, and the many stressors you have give you at least this one day off from their machinations.
I had planned to post yesterday but my other laptop was not cooperating. I wanted to do the whole "Remember remember the fifth of November thing" but that was not to be. I also wanted to do some work on my independent study paper, but that was also not to be. Stupid computers.
Okay, so now I have a freaking headache and I KNEW I should not have had that quesadilla at lunch, because combined with the smallish bottle of milk I had with my cereal this afternoon, it has activated my lactose intolerance and my insides are rumbling and grumbling in a very unsettling fashion. I know all y'all wanted to know that.
I have a 715 meeting with the folks from my English class to discuss our performance project, and it is now 700, so I have to go very soon. More about that later, and about my murder mystery dinner thingie which is on Saturday night at 730 at the Illini Union Ballroom. It is $8 for UIUC-affiliated peoples and $12 for non, but you get food. I'd like to take the opportunity to invite anyone local who enjoys murder mysteries and free(ish) food to come. It's called Thirst for Blood and tickets are available at the Illini Union box office.
Speaking of box offices, I am going to the Keith Urban concert at the Assembly Hall next Thursday, so if anyone local is going and wants to hang out before or after, let me know. |

Okay, I have drill this weekend, which is why I'm posting at such an indecent hour on a Saturday morning, and is why I won't be online all weekend, but I just wanted to wish Buffyaddict13 a very happy birthday! Cheers, Ladybug. |

| Interesting. Pretty well-balanced, then. |
[Oct. 17th, 2007|02:23 pm] |
| You Are 55% Left Brained, 45% Right Brained | The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning. Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic. Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.
The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility. Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way. If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art. Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports. |

SOROCULA! Did you watch tonight's Numb3rs? WTF? Seriously, that's all I can say right now. Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, that's pretty much all I have to say right now because I have to get ready for drill tomorrow. But next week, I shall have such niceties as my job for next year and my living situation and everything under control and will thus have time to talk about Supernatural in a way that will do it justice, rather than something slapdash and sloppy and wow, isn't this a long sentence. |

Happy Deansday! Yes, I think it's rather obvious I'm a Dean girl. At least to those who know me. Not only is Jensen prettier than Jared, I am Dean. So there you have it.
And I will be maintaining a running commentary under a cut, so fair warning, ladies and gents.
( So, SPN )
So my mom came over today and we went out to Meijer so I could do some grocery shopping and also buy a new watch, since the strap on mine broke. The new one HAS NO NUMBERS on its face, so it's a good thing I already know where the numbers should be, huh? So she had to return the rental car today because the agency needed it or some such, and she wanted to borrow mine. For tomorrow only, because I have drill this weekend. So I followed her over to Danville and then drove back. And she's going to come pick me up when she gets off work tomorrow, and we'll go get her car and then I can drive back and it'll all be good. I also have some housework stuff to do, so I'm going to go do that and then come back and see what people have to say about this ep. The ladies over on spn_live seemed to think it was ehhh, until the last fifteen minutes or so. And even then somewhat predictable. So we'll see.
I have switched mychannel to NBC to watch Raines because I love me some Jeff Goldblum. Ta ta for now, ladies. And the whole two guys on my flist, whom I know IRL and are part of the reason I never talk about LARP on here. |
